As the highest-capacity tension rod bracing system available, DonoBrace® delivers strength you can depend on, without compromising aesthetics. Built on proven engineering, refined through thoughtful design, and manufactured with attention to detail, it raises the standard for both performance and aesthetics.
That same commitment to quality carries through every step of the manufacturing process.
Superior, By Design
Behlen Custom Fabrication adheres to high standards and utilizes precision-machined nuts and bolts to ensure each DonoBrace® connection is securely fastened. End plates are built via laser-cutting and precision pressing for clean, accurate edges, holes, and details. This technology employs precisely controlled manufacturing and finishing processes to produce high-strength DonoBrace® components.
The DonoBrace® system uses 120-ksi high-strength bars, and this choice results in superior cost-effectiveness per kilopound (kip). Its simplified design allows for easy installation and conducting onsite inspections. The coupling components also eliminate the need for turnbuckles or left- and right-hand threaded components.
Certifications You Demand
DonoBrace® is recognized in ICC-ES Evaluation Report ESR-5572 for use under the International Building Code. It’s a bracing system specifically designed for wind and seismic load resistance in tension-only bracing applications.
What this means in practice: this single, independently evaluated system can be specified across virtually any seismic design zone in the United States, from lower-risk Seismic Design Category A structures to the most demanding Category F applications.
For structural engineers and specifiers, ICC-ES evaluation removes concerns or delays resulting from guesswork. The DonoBrace® system provides documented, code-referenced compliance that supports plan approval and simplifies the specification process, regardless of project location or seismic exposure.
Our process includes independent testing by Holmes Solutions, with verified mechanical properties and demonstrated ductile assembly behavior governed by bar rupture. Holmes Solutions concluded that the system can be designed in accordance with the requirements of AS4100:1998.
The scope of that testing was comprehensive. Holmes Solutions conducted tensile testing across all four DonoBrace® bar sizes, DB5, DB6, DB7, and DB8. For each option, multiple tests were performed to ensure compliance with the strictest testing requirements. Testing included bar strength, coupler capacity, and end-connection capacity. In each test, the DonoBrace® product met expectations.
Most importantly, in all tests, all assemblies failed in a ductile manner governed by bar rupture rather than a brittle failure at the connection. This failure mode is precisely what structural engineers design for: it confirms that the system behaves predictably under extreme loads and delivers the energy dissipation characteristics required in seismic applications across every design category.
DonoBrace® Benefits
In addition to being a complete supplied system, DonoBrace® meets demanding certifications and delivers increased construction confidence. Here’s why you can count on us when component quality is vital to success:
- Behlen Custom Fabrication has ISO 9001 certification, a globally recognized standard for quality management.
- DonoBrace® is code-evaluated for seismic applications within the scope of ICC-ES ESR-5572.
- Published Ry and Rt values for AISC 341 design, plus published yielding and rupture strengths.
DonoBrace® is becoming recognized as the new standard for tension-bracing systems. Its combination of engineered capacity, simplified configuration, and third-party evaluation can make it a practical choice depending on project needs.
